Haunani Hopkins
2018 Massage Therapy Hall of Fame


Born in Kahuku, Hawai.i 1951, Haunani is a descendant of the Moana line of the Kamehamehas. Her Great-grandfather James Ka.uhane, was a cousin to King David Kalakaua and her Greatgrandmother was Manoheli.i a descendant of the High Chief of the Big Island of Hawai.i, Liloa of Waipio Valley. Her Greatgrandmother was also a lomilomi practitioner, who taught Haunani in her dreams since she was a young age.

Haunani has volunteered in many community events alongside Aunty Margaret Machado to do Lomilomi demonstrations at the Keauhou Outrigger Hotel during the Hawaiian CulturalFestivals from 1998 to 2003, the Pu.uhonua .o Honaunau Cultural Festival from 2004-2011, and at the Ka Ulu Lauhala .o Kona Cultural Festival, from 2011 to present. Haunani has helped many Kupuna (elders), pregnant mothers, babies and injured young athletes of the Kailua-Kona community at no charge.

As President of the Hawaiian Lomilomi Association she has been instrumental in gathering the elders from all Islands of Hawai.i on a yearly basis to share their wisdom with the Lomilomi community and practitioners from around the world as well as coordinating everything necessary to conduct the yearly event. Her passion is to care for the elders and perpetuate the Hawaiian Lomilomi and Healing practices.
