This course will take students on a rich pictorial journey through the history of massage, from ancient times to the present day. The class will begin with an overview of massage practices from cultures around the world and move on to a thorough examination of massage's evolution - from its shamanic roots to its 19th century renaissance to its modern day professionalization. From there, it will cover the various tools that have been used through time, such as bodyrollers, vibrators, oils and liniments. The course will end with a survey of the many massage pioneers who have made the industry what it is today.
