Kinetic Massage

8 Credit Hours

Kinetic Massage Manual therapy approaches in the United States tend to perform passive range of motion in isolation instead of integrating the movement of the client with other treatment protocols. Failure to use PROM as a tool to position the client ultimately results in fatigue or injury for the practitioner and greater discomfort for the client. Increasingly, clients are being treated in clinics and spa settings where clients are not clothed, and poor draping skills discourage the use of stretches and movement in full range of motion. Time limitations in many settings result in choices of omission. If one has time for only ROM or massage, which is more effective? Verbal directives to activate muscles in PNF, AIS, or ART methods may be undesirable in a spa environment or impractical when time or language barrier interfere. Kinetic Massage uses passive range of motion as compression, digital pressure, compressive effleurage, and muscle stripping are performed. Learning how to manipulate the extremities and reposition the client using only one hand frees the other hand to adjust draping and perform treatments.

What to bring: Massage table with face cradle and bolster, linens, pen or pencil.
